TL;DR
ElevenLabs free plan gives 10,000 characters/month — about 2–3 five-minute narrations. The Creator plan at $22/month (100K chars) is the sweet spot for most content creators. Starter at $5/month is right for occasional use. Pro at $99/month is only needed for audiobook or high-volume production work.
June 2026 update
ElevenLabs pricing tiers remain unchanged since late 2025. Notable additions: the Flash v2.5 Turbo model is now available on all paid plans for faster (lower-latency) generation at slightly reduced quality — useful for real-time applications. The Projects feature (long-form audio stitching) received significant UI improvements and is now available from the Creator plan. Scale and Business plan pricing requires contacting sales for volume quotes.
Quick note: what "characters" actually means
ElevenLabs charges by characters of text converted to audio. A typical 500-word blog post is roughly 3,000–3,500 characters. A 10-minute YouTube script is ~8,000–10,000 characters. Keep that in mind as you read the plan limits below.

Which plan should you pick?

You're a creator making regular content — YouTube, podcasts, courses. You need a commercial license. This plan covers several videos or podcast episodes per month. It's $5. Start here.
You're producing content regularly and hitting the 30,000 char limit on Starter, or you want the Projects feature for long-form audiobooks and course recordings.

Frequently asked questions
How much does ElevenLabs cost per month?
Five plans: Free ($0 — 10K chars), Starter ($5 — 30K), Creator ($22 — 100K), Pro ($99 — 500K), Scale ($330 — 2M). See the full ElevenLabs review for which plan suits which use case.
How many characters is a 5-minute voiceover?
Roughly 3,500–4,500 characters depending on pacing. At Creator (100K/month), that's about 22–28 five-minute narrations — enough for daily YouTube content.
Is ElevenLabs free forever?
Yes. The free plan is not a trial — 10,000 characters/month, no credit card required, no expiry. Enough for 2–3 five-minute narrations per month.
Can you cancel ElevenLabs anytime?
Yes. Month-to-month, no cancellation fees. Downgrade to free at any time.
Does ElevenLabs charge per character or per minute?
Per character of text input, not per audio minute. A fast script and a slow script with the same word count use the same characters.
