Systeme.io Email Marketing:
Good Enough to Ditch Mailchimp?

Unlimited email sends on a free plan sounds too good to be true. Here's what Systeme.io email actually does well, where it falls short, and when you should stick with a dedicated email tool.

TL;DR

Systeme.io email marketing is solid for funnel-connected email — automations triggered by purchases, tag-based segmentation, and unlimited sends. It's not Mailchimp. If you want drag-and-drop email design, advanced A/B testing, or deep analytics, look at a dedicated email tool. But if your email is part of a funnel, it's hard to beat the all-in-one value.

June 2026 update

Mailchimp raised prices again in 2025 — Essentials now starts at ~$20/month for 500 contacts, up from $13. Their free plan is now capped at 500 contacts and 1,000 emails/month, making it less competitive than it was. ConvertKit rebranded as Kit in late 2024 (same product, new name). Systeme.io pricing has not changed — free plan is still genuinely free with unlimited sends.

What Systeme.io email actually includes

The big selling point is unlimited emails per month on every plan including free. That's real — there's no monthly cap. Here's what you're working with:

What's included

  • Unlimited email broadcasts (newsletters)
  • Email sequences (drip campaigns)
  • Drag-and-drop email editor
  • Tags and contact segmentation
  • Open rate and click tracking
  • Unsubscribe handling (CAN-SPAM compliant)
  • Automation rules (trigger sequences on actions)

What's missing

  • A/B split testing for emails
  • Advanced behavioral triggers (scroll, click-based)
  • RSS-to-email for blog posts
  • SMS / push notifications
  • Spam score checker before sending
  • Deep analytics (vs Klaviyo/ActiveCampaign)

Deliverability — the thing that actually matters

Deliverability is the question nobody asks until their emails are landing in spam. Systeme.io's deliverability is solid for a shared-sending infrastructure tool. It's not Mailchimp-level brand recognition with ISPs, but it's not a spam farm either.

The things that affect deliverability are mostly in your hands anyway: list hygiene, not emailing cold contacts, having an SPF/DKIM record set up. Systeme.io lets you configure DKIM on your custom domain on all plans — that's the main deliverability lever and it's not gated.

If you're sending transactional emails or running a high-volume e-commerce store, you need a dedicated ESP with better analytics and bounce management. For a creator or coach sending weekly newsletters to a list under 10,000 — Systeme.io email gets it done.

Mailchimp raised Essentials pricing to ~$20/month in 2025 and tightened the free plan to 500 contacts. Systeme.io free has not changed.

The case for keeping a separate email tool

I'm going to be straight with you: if email is your primary revenue channel — you're a newsletter business, a media company, you have a 50,000-person list — don't use Systeme.io email as your main tool. Use ConvertKit or Beehiiv or ActiveCampaign. They exist for email and they're better at it.

Systeme.io email is excellent for the creator or coach who wants everything in one place without managing integrations. You don't want to wire Zapier between your funnel builder and your email tool. You don't want to export CSV contact lists between systems. You want to build a funnel, and when someone opts in, they're in your email list immediately, automatically.

That integration is the real value. It's not "Systeme.io has better email than Mailchimp." It's "Systeme.io email is good enough and it's already wired to everything else you're doing."

Frequently asked questions

Does Systeme.io have email marketing?

Yes — all plans including free include unlimited email sends, automations, tagging, and segmentation. See the full Systeme.io review.

Is Systeme.io email marketing good?

For funnel-connected email, yes. For standalone email with advanced design and A/B testing, dedicated tools like Mailchimp are more capable.

Can you do email automation on the free plan?

Yes. Full automation sequences (welcome, post-purchase, course delivery) work on the free plan.

Is Systeme.io better than Mailchimp?

For funnel-based businesses (courses, digital products): yes on cost and integration. For standalone newsletters: Mailchimp wins. See newsletter tool comparison.

Does Systeme.io have deliverability issues?

Shared infrastructure can affect deliverability on cold lists. For warm, opted-in lists, deliverability is generally acceptable.
